If you?ve got a difficult boss or too demanding clients, it?s important to remember how things couldo be much worse. Almost every legal job going is better than the seven jobs below. Whether you are solicitor, paralegal or legal secretary it?s read about these roles and make a cup of tea and realise it could be a lot worse.
Poultry Processor ? even for the most ardent meat eater it?s difficult to think about working in a poultry processing plant. The combination f raw meat, the mechanical nature of the operation and the bodily fluids it?s easy to see why it?s a role with a high employee turnover. Generally very repetitive, not hugely mentally engaging and the pay aren?t even that good. And it would probably put you off chicken
Sewing Machine Operator ? working in a factory as a sewing operative is another job that is far from appealing for legal professionals. The noise along with the repetitive movements put you at real risk of repetitive strain injury. The onus is on fast and accurate work, and though a very different kind of pressure to legal work it can still be really stressful with really tight deadlines.
Farm Labourer ? there is nothing more unreliable than the British weather. As a farm labourer you?ll have to deal with the worst the weather can throw at you. Icy cold winter, wet autumn & spring plus scorching hot summer days. Ignoring the climate there?s also the issue of really hard manual labour. The idea of working outside on a farm might appeal but it?s very little like you might see on a television show.
Roofer ? while better paid than many of the jobs on this list there are plenty of downsides to the job. You have all the same weather issues as a farm labourer but with the added fun of being on a roof while you do it. There?s a real knack to the skills required and plenty of heavy lifting up and down scaffolding. Certain people love it but it?s an acquired taste.
Soldier ? whether you are at war or not there is the ?intensive? training. Up at dawn, with bags full of bricks and running around the woods. Nothing like the assault course you might have a go on for a hag or hen do. Once you?ve got all the training under your belt you?re flown off to some of the most dangerous corners of the world to get shot at. Suddenly the commute to you office doesn?t seem so bad.
Medical Test Subject ? normally the preserve of the desperate students but there a small band of committed/crazy people who make a living from volunteering for medical trials. It might seem like money for old rope but you only need to see the outcomes of the trials when things go wrong to see why it might not be the wisest decision ever made signing up.
Cold Call Centre Worker ? nobody likes cold calls, so it?s not hugely surprising they get plenty of stick from the people they call. So if you think you get verbally abused in your law job it might be worth trying a quick shift in a call centre to see how much worse it could be.
Often people don?t have much choice about which job they have, but if you are ever really annoyed about your current work circumstances it?s worth thinking about how much worse it could be.
