Traveling around Asia, Africa, Europe and the United States for about 10 years more ,I understands how foreigners think of Chinese .Although they don?t treat us as a surprise, they always ask some questions surprised. Now I have listed as Top 5 to you.
1.What is the most surprising thing?
When I arrived at West, people who are my colleagues, teachers and my friends always ask that, ?When you arrive at our country, What is the most surprising thing do you think of?? If I answer the question as honest, the answer should be, everything over here is the same as what I imagine. The reason is simple. Today Chinese also can get information about policy, culture, life in west through Internet, TV, paper and so on. Except of language, I can?t feel the ?cultureShock?.
2. Peking, when its name was changed?
Abroad, foreigners always ask me, Peking, when its name change to Beijing? Then I explained ,?Beijing is called Beijing, never be changed. Just called as Chinese call it? But a friend who know Chinese a little, said,? Why not China is called Zhongguo, Not China??. It gave a surprise. China is called only in English. There are other titles for China in French, Arabian or in German. Maybe when we recover Taiwan, our country will be called Zhongguo.
3. Are dogs delicious food?
When I arrived Pairs, A French ask me.? Are dogs delicious food?? At that time ,its my first time to go abroad. So that I can?t get rid of the trap. Whatever I answered, it would gave him this information, that Chinese eat dogs. In those foreigners opinions, dogs are our honest friends. How could you eat them so merciless? But it?s hard to say ,that although dogs can keep house, solve a criminal case or be our friends, the Social status is still very low. So it does not matter that we eat dogs. Don?t mention anything about bears, tigers or any other animals to foreigners. 
4.How can we drink soup with chopsticks?
Many foreigners try hard to practice chopsticks. They deny knives and forks when they have a dinner at a Chinese restaurant .It seems that without chopsticks, they can?t taste Chinese food totally. But one thing many foreigners still don?t understand—— How can we drink soup with chopsticks? Some foreigners think that there are some other kinds of chopsticks to used to drink soup. I answer that when we drink soup, we just use scoop without chopsticks. They understood a little, so simple?
5.Why learning Chinese is so hard?
Many foreigners are interested in Chinese. Why learning Chinese is so hard? .It?s true that learning Chinese is a little difficult. But it seems that they have some afraid about learning Chinese. They will use ?Chinese? to describe something could not be to understood. A word is called ?CHINESEPUZZLE? in English. It is used to describe things too difficult to be understood.
